HIGH SCHOOL SAILING TEAM
Spring and Fall High School Sailing
For grades 8-12 and ages 12-17
High School Sailing is SSP’s off-season program for high school students who want to sail during the school year and compete in the NWISA high school racing circuit. While SSP facilitates, coaches, and supervises the high school sailing program, students form their own teams within their respective schools and take on the responsibilities of recruiting and team management. Practices and regattas primarily take place in Flying Juniors (FJs) and c420s. High school sailing connects high schoolers interested in the sport to a fun and welcoming group of like-minded youth sailors who want to sail and compete together in the Fall and Spring.
High school Sailing is open to sailors actively enrolled in grades 8-12. Eighth graders are welcome to practice with the team if they are ready (minimum 90lbs, maturity level compatible with high school students), although competitive opportunities are more limited.
Tuition information can be found on the Race Team Dues page.
Practice Groups and Skill Divisions
High School teams typically practice twice a week. Each skill group will be assigned two practice days. Additional practice opportunities may be available at the coach’s discretion.
Coaches keep attendance. Sailors are grouped by team association, skill level, and experience in order to make for focused and productive practices. High School Sailing is a competitive racing program and sailors are expected to work hard to develop their skills and contribute to the success of their teams.
